Senator Monty Mason serves the Peninsula’s 1st Senate District, stretching from James City County and Williamsburg, through all of Newport News, and includes parts of Hampton, York and Suffolk. Elected to the House in 2013 and Senate in 2016, he is focused on diversifying our economy, protecting seniors, serving our veterans, creating opportunities for small businesses and improving education for Virginia’s children. Monty serves on various nonprofit boards throughout the Peninsula and the Commonwealth including the Jamestown Yorktown Foundation, the Sorensen Institute’s Statewide Advisory Board and the Smart Beginnings Virginia Peninsula Board of Directors. He also serves as a member of the Senate’s Commerce and Labor committee and is chairman of the Alcoholic Beverage Control subcommittee. He was recently awarded “Legislator of the Year” from the Virginia Chamber of Commerce. He graduated from William and Mary where he earned a BA in government in 1989 and he lives Williamsburg with his wife, Pamela, and two daughters.
