On June 30th, Microsoft announced our accelerated and expanded commitment to empowering people to get the skills they need to succeed as the economy changes. Helping everyone—wherever they are starting from—more easily develop the digital skills for in-demand roles is essential to supporting an inclusive economic recovery. That’s why we are committed to helping 25 million people worldwide learn new skills through a comprehensive approach. We are bringing together existing and new resources from Microsoft, including from LinkedIn and GitHub, with a focus on three key areas:

• Using data to identify in-demand skills and jobs

• Offering free access to learning paths and skilling resources needed for in-demand jobs

• Connecting these skills to low-cost certifications and free job-seeking tools to help people pursue jobs.

Steve Van Dam is a lean music expert, drawing from a 25-year career of creating and sharing music. Whether creating and teaching music technology, producing and composing tracks with millions of performances, or performing his band’s hit song on stages around the world, he loves to connect people with musical experiences. Steve has a BFA in Music Composition from James Madison University.Van Dam’s latest ‘ORO’ project leverages students’ love of touch screens to engage them in music creativity, design thinking, and problem solving, using Light the Music’s ORO Visual Music apps.

John graduated from the University of Richmond, where Trilogy Mentors was first started as an in-person mentorship program that matched university students with K-12 students for academic support and mentorship. Having a deep personal connection to academic mentorship, John expanded Trilogy Mentors to the online space to increase access and build support networks for students. Knowing that meaningful relationships with instructors and tutors have the power to inspire students to reach personal and academic success, John is dedicated to partnering with parents, schools, nonprofits, and other educational organizations to reach students when and where they need academic support the most. John was recently named one of Richmond’s 25 most influential innovators under 25 by Richmond Innovation.
