  5. Reference form completed by someone who can support your qualifications and candidacy for scholarship consideration.

Personal Statement

Personal statement describing passion for technology and career goals in the tech field. Please choose ONE of the following options for submission:

Written Personal Statement (approximately 300 words)

Preference will be given to statements that reflect the applicant’s individual voice and perspective. Essays written solely by AI typically lack voice and authenticity. Be specific in providing examples, anecdotes, thoughts, reflections, and sources of motivation and inspiration that will give the selection committee insight into who you are and why pursuing a career in technology/tech skills is important to you.

OR

Video Personal Statement (approximately 2–3 minutes)

In lieu of a written personal statement, candidates may submit a self-recorded video responding to the prompt above. Applicants are encouraged to film their video in a “one take” format. We hope to hear each applicant’s perspective and get to know you, not just your editing skills. Upload your video to YouTube (or other cloud platform), set it to private, and share the video link in the space provided on the application. Do not submit your video in a format that requires reviewers to download. Inaccessible videos may disqualify an applicant from consideration.

Students must be currently enrolled in a public or private high school located within the Greater Richmond (RVA) area. This includes the City of Richmond and surrounding counties within the Virginia Department of Education’s Superintendent’s Region 1.
Students must be currently enrolled in a 4-year college or university, public or private, located within the Greater Richmond (RVA) area typically recognized by regional partners at the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) and PlanRVA: Greater Richmond (RVA) area typically recognized by regional partners at the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) and PlanRVA.
