Virginia declares Women in Technology Week!

August 5, 2019

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognizes October 13 – 19th as; Women in Technology Week.

Whereas, the transition in to the Information Age for all Virginians is essential to the prosperity and livelihood of our Commonwealth’s families and communities; and

Whereas, only 26% of professional computing occupations in the 2018 U.S Work force were held by women which has steadily declined since 1990; and

Whereas, women represent a very small percentage of technology professionals in Virginia and are continually striving to reach gender equality in computer technology fields; and

Whereas, largely due to gender and wage gaps between men and women, female attrition rates are higher than they are in non-STEM fields; and

Whereas, women in technology professions have made substantial contributions to technological advancements in Virginia’s economy, government offices, high-tech firms, and engineering corporations; and

Now whereas, during Women in Technology Week, the Commonwealth of Virginia recognizes the multitude of ways that women contribute to technology professions and hopes to raise awareness of the availability of important jobs for women in computing, engineering, and technology fields.
