McGuireWoods has an opportunity for an IT Business Analyst (BA) to serve a critical role on both project and non-project initiatives. The BA translates internal client wants/needs into actionable project/product requirements, helps negotiate trade-offs when client expectations and system capabilities diverge, and serves as communications lead for deployments. Using a variety of methods and tools, the business analyst researches technical solutions (mostly COTs and SaaS) to meet business needs. The business analyst may function in a leadership capacity to coordinate product demos, facilitate stakeholders input from remote locations and drive decisions. By building strong relationships with key stakeholders in the other business units as well as within the IT department, our business analysts gain a deep understanding of the challenges the different departments face and help to identify opportunities for information technology to help drive the firm’s mission forward.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide proactive and engaged leadership on key projects designed to increase revenue, enhance business efficiency, and improve client relations

  • Liase with multiple stakeholders to aggregate, prioritize and document requirements for system modifications, enhancements and implementations

  • Research competitive landscape to provide fact-based recommendations to the stakeholders

  • Stay current with customer needs utilizing formal and informal written communication methods (for example, emails, surveys, focus groups, portal updates etc)

  • Analyze and synthesize business requirements, including recognizing patterns and conceptualizing processes

  • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts and decompose high-level information into details

  • Conduct COTS product assessments, demonstrations, costs analysis and prepare executive level presentations of findings

  • Create business cases including definition of project objectives, KPIs, requirements and priorities

  • Elicit and document requirements using interviews, document analysis, focus groups, surveys, business process descriptions, use cases, task and workflow analysis


Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience working as a business analyst with key client stakeholders to define and document business processes including functional and technical system requirements

  • 5+ years facilitating meetings with technical teams and senior leadership

  • Experience with waterfall, iterative and agile methodologies

  • Experience evaluating and recommending COTS products
