Job Description Summary

This position will lead the Engineering Program Management Organization (PMO) across the engineering team comprising 1300 engineers globally. As a leader of a senior team, s/he will be responsible for driving scope, practices and overall strategy for the Engineering PMO to grow and ensure operational maturity in the global GED Engineering team. To include but not be limited to: standard work and artifacts through strong decision making, efficient and scalable practices, driving accountability and predictability, increasing customer focus, and increasing employee engagement. The Engineering PMO leader will support and advocate Lean and Agile, defining and governing the right level of standard work within Engineering practices, processes, and reporting.


Job Description


Essential Responsibilities:

In this role, you will:

  • Define and govern standard engineering practices to ensure operational efficiency and standard work across a broad and distributed engineering team. Includes, but not limited to:

    • Reinforcing and instituting requirements for standard processes, data, and operating rhythms.

    • Supporting Agile development and Lean practices, providing training and coaching globally  

    • Facilitating/partnering on ISO certification and driving processes to ensure compliance

  • Driving and supporting employee engagement activities to build a high-performance software engineering culture and organization that reinforces efficient and collaborative teamwork, a customer-focus, and high employee satisfaction   

  • Collaborate with business and functional partners and technology leadership to map out strategic and tactical roadmap of IT initiatives

  • Work closely with GED product management and engineering leaders to ensure that deliverables are coordinated across GED product lines, and cross-team dependencies are tracked and communicated

  • Responsible for governance structure around key performance indicators, milestones, and reporting cadences

  • Manage and/or provide support for navigating financial and resourcing constraints; report on actuals against budget targets for programs across the organization, identifies overruns and highlights risks

  • Outline multi-generational program management strategy aligned to deliver on the PMO charter and associated expected outcomes

  • Coordinate with internal and vendor Technical Project Managers who are responsible for executing various projects across multiple programs

  • Support execution team with resolution of roadblocks and interdependencies. Partner with leadership of technical and functional teams internal and external to the organization to ensure sufficient support and engagement.

  • Manage executive stakeholder communication and progress reporting

  • Guide project teams through decision and pivot points as required

  • Track program progress and status with data-driven metrics.  Drive to automate reporting through direct connections to systems of record.  Drive simple but powerful automated reporting that can ultimately be used for daily management.

  • Ensure lessons learned are part of the standard work.

  • Partner with Engineering leadership and finance on financial reporting and reviews, and ensuring ongoing tracking against the budget


Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in relatable field

  • A minimum of 12 years of experience with established program and project leadership across disciplines and functions

  • A minimum of 8+ years of experience with established people leadership across disciplines and functions

  • Minimum 12 years of professional experience in Software Development Program Management leading cross functional initiatives and/or large global programs

Desired Characteristics:

Technical Expertise:


  • Proven experience of working with executive-level stakeholders to define overall IT strategy and managing large portfolio of projects

  • Track record of driving IT innovation and technology-driven business outcomes

  • Experience managing budgets including annual budgets and large-scale projects

  • Experience and understanding of the software development and deployment model for both on-premise and Cloud  

  • Strong track record of understanding and interest in current and emerging technologies demonstrated through training, job experience and / or industry activities

  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint

  • Experience using Confluence, Rally, Jira, or AHA a plus.

  • ScrumMaster, PMP, or related Project Management certification a plus.
