A Letter from the Executive Director
February 25, 2019
It’s great to finally be on board serving as your Executive Director. I’ve spent a majority of my first month out talking and listening with you all – RVATECH members (some past, some present, and some future). I’ve learned a great deal (mostly over coffee) about what you envision for the future of our technology community in RVA – all of which has left me excited about the opportunities ahead (and a little over-caffeinated). Here’s what I heard you want:
Inspiration: You want a Council that lives on the cutting edge for its members and reflects the innovative spirit of the technology industry. You want programs, events, and services that “wow” and help you refresh your own imagination, allowing you to go back and apply new and innovative thinking to your own businesses.
Initiative: You want a Council that leads the charge and consistently plays on the offense. The organization and its community of members should be engaged in efforts that propel the technology ecosystem forward for your own companies, the Richmond community at large, and the next generation of technologists.
Identity: You want a Council that whole-heartedly embraces Richmond – its spirit, its culture, its eccentricities, and its innovation. You don’t want a replica of another Tech Council, you want your own Tech Council, and you want to be proud of it.
Impact: You want a Council that makes a difference. Yes, you want benefits, and you want a community, and you want visibility. However, you want to make certain that it all serves a greater good and that the work we do is meaningful beyond our own office doors.
This is what I’ve heard in a month – I can’t imagine what a year will bring! As I continue along throughout my first 90 days (and beyond), I promise you the listening will never stop. However, I also assure you that the listening will eventually turn to vision casting and action, as we all strive to make Richmond the best tech town it can be.
